Floyd luggage and bags compared

The right Floyd model mainly depends on the length of your trip and how much you want to pack. Cabin is designed for short trips and carry-on use, Check-In covers longer journeys, and Trunk provides considerably more space. The Weekender complements the hard-shell cases as a flexible travel bag for short breaks or additional luggage.

Floyd: luggage with California 70s DNA

Floyd was founded in 2019 with a clear idea: modern luggage should not only be functional, it should also have character. Its visual inspiration comes strongly from California’s skate and surf culture of the 1970s.

This is especially visible in the wheels. Instead of conventional small suitcase wheels, Floyd Travel Cases use 360° polyurethane wheels inspired by skateboard wheels. Their construction and distinctive appearance are not simply a design reference but a defining part of the luggage.

Clean hard-shell shapes, the signature orange interior, and a colour palette that extends far beyond conventional black and grey complete the look. Floyd therefore works both as high-quality luggage and as a deliberate design statement.

Floyd Cabin: for short trips and carry-on travel

The Floyd Cabin is the compact Travel Case in the collection and is designed for trips of approximately one to three days. With around 41 litres of capacity, it offers space for clothing, tech, and travel essentials without reaching the proportions of a large checked suitcase.

Like the larger Floyd Travel Cases, the Cabin features a durable Makrolon® polycarbonate shell, an aluminium frame, an integrated TSA combination lock, and eight 360° wheels.

This makes the Cabin particularly suitable for weekend trips, short business journeys, or travel where you want to keep your luggage as compact as possible.

When flying, remember that permitted carry-on dimensions and weights vary by airline and fare. Always check your airline’s current baggage rules before travelling.

Floyd Check-In: the all-rounder for longer trips

The Floyd Check-In sits between Cabin and Trunk, making it the most versatile larger suitcase in the collection. With around 61 litres of capacity, Floyd positions it for trips of approximately three to six days.

The exterior combines Makrolon® polycarbonate with an aluminium frame and integrated TSA combination lock. Inside, separate sections, packing straps, and additional organisational details help keep clothing, shoes, and travel essentials neatly stored.

The Check-In is therefore ideal when the Cabin is too small but you do not need the capacity of the larger Trunk.

Floyd Trunk: more space for bigger travel plans

The Floyd Trunk is the most spacious of the core Floyd suitcase sizes available at 43einhalb. Around 95 litres of capacity make it the choice for longer journeys, larger packing lists, or trips where a minimalist travel setup simply is not enough.

Despite its larger format, the typical Floyd design remains intact: polycarbonate hard shell, aluminium frame, TSA lock, orange interior, and distinctive wheels clearly connect the Trunk with Cabin and Check-In.

The main difference is therefore less about design and more about capacity: Cabin for compact trips, Check-In as the versatile all-rounder, and Trunk for longer journeys with significantly more luggage.

Why do Floyd suitcases have skateboard-inspired wheels?

The wheels are one of Floyd’s defining features. The Travel Cases use eight 360° polyurethane wheels with a construction and appearance strongly influenced by skateboarding.

The connection is deliberate. Polyurethane wheels fundamentally changed skateboard culture in the 1970s and remain closely associated with its visual language. Floyd transfers this design idea into modern luggage.

The result is one of the brand’s strongest visual signatures: even from a distance, a Floyd Travel Case looks different from a conventional trolley.

What makes Floyd luggage special?

Floyd does not aim to make luggage as anonymous as possible. Function and design are meant to be equally visible. The combination of a robust hard shell, aluminium frame, colour-accented wheels, and orange interior is especially distinctive.

The Travel Cases also feature integrated TSA combination locks and structured interiors. Premium luggage functionality therefore meets a much more relaxed design influenced by skate and surf culture.

Floyd Weekender: the flexible travel bag

The Floyd Weekender complements the hard-shell cases with a softer and more flexible travel bag. With around 30 litres of capacity, it is particularly suitable for weekend trips, short journeys, or additional luggage.

The exterior is made from nylon twill, while the interior uses recycled poly-satin. Multiple exterior and interior compartments plus a padded laptop section help separate clothing, tech, and smaller essentials.

The Weekender can also be attached to a Floyd Travel Case, making it useful both on its own and as a companion to Cabin, Check-In, or Trunk.

Cabin, Check-In, Trunk or Weekender: Which Floyd is right for you?

The Cabin is the obvious choice for short trips with limited luggage. It combines Floyd’s characteristic suitcase construction with a compact format.

The Check-In offers considerably more space and is especially versatile for medium-length journeys. If you regularly travel for longer periods or carry more luggage, the Trunk provides the greatest capacity.

The Weekender follows a different concept: it is a flexible travel bag rather than a hard-shell suitcase and works either on its own for short trips or as an addition to a Floyd trolley.

Floyd colours: from classic luggage to design statement

Colour is not a minor detail at Floyd but an established part of the brand identity. Alongside understated tones, Cabin, Check-In, and Trunk regularly appear in stronger colours. The same suitcase can therefore feel very different depending on the colourway – from clean and classic to deliberately bold.

The interaction between the case colour, signature orange lining, and distinctive skateboard-inspired wheels is especially characteristic. Together, these details make Floyd luggage easy to recognise even without large branding.
