norda: trail running from Canada

norda was created in Canada with the goal of building trail-running shoes that combine high performance with exceptional durability. From the beginning, its footwear has been developed from a functional perspective for changing conditions, long distances, and demanding terrain.

norda shoes are therefore not lifestyle sneakers with outdoor styling added afterwards. Materials, sole construction, and fit are developed around the demands of trail running. Their clean technical aesthetic working equally well away from the trail is more a consequence than a starting point.

norda 001A: the ultra-distance all-rounder

The norda 001A is the central all-rounder in the collection, designed for long distances, daily training, and demanding trail runs. Compared with the original 001, one of the most significant updates is the midsole.

A bespoke Arnitel® TPEE midsole combines cushioning with strong energy return and durability. It is paired with a seamless bio-circular Dyneema® upper and a norda x Vibram® Litebase® Megagrip® soleplate with 5 mm lugs.

With a 5 mm drop and balanced stack height, the 001A combines protection and cushioning with a controlled ride. Within this norda selection, it is the most versatile choice for longer distances.

norda 002: more ground feel for technical trails

The norda 002 is aimed at runners who prefer a more direct connection to the terrain. Its lower stack brings the foot closer to the ground than the 001A.

The construction combines a seamless Dyneema® upper with Vibram® SLE foam and an exclusive Vibram® Litebase Megagrip soleplate with 5 mm lugs. A padded heel collar and Dynamic Lace-Lock System help provide controlled lockdown.

Compared with the 001A, the 002 prioritises precision, control, and terrain feedback over maximum cushioning.

norda 003: the laceless approach shoe

The norda 003 immediately stands apart from the other models. Instead of conventional laces, it uses a proprietary elasticised Dyneema® fit system and was developed as a laceless approach shoe.

A seamless Dyneema® upper is combined with Vibram® SLE foam and a Vibram® Litebase Megagrip soleplate with 5 mm lugs. The construction is designed for secure fit and versatility across changing terrain.

The 003 deliberately sits between hiking, scrambling, and running, making it especially interesting when your time outdoors involves more than conventional trail running.

norda 005: speed for race day

The norda 005 is the most uncompromising speed-focused model in this selection. At around 214 grams in a US Men's 8.5, it is significantly lighter than the other models and clearly designed around fast trail running and race day.

Its open-weave Bio-Dyneema® upper increases breathability and water drainage. An Arnitel® TPEE midsole is paired with a Vibram® Megagrip Elite soleplate with 4 mm lugs. The norda 005 Fit-Lock System also helps secure the foot at higher speeds.

Compared with the 001A, the 005 is less about versatile daily training and more about low weight, responsiveness, and speed.

001A or 002: What is the difference?

The biggest difference is the ride. The norda 001A offers more cushioning and is built as a versatile ultra-distance shoe for long runs, daily training, and racing.

The 002 sits noticeably closer to the ground with 19 mm at the heel and 15 mm at the forefoot. This provides greater ground feel and precision on technical and uneven terrain.

In simple terms: 001A for distance and versatility, 002 for directness and control.

003 or a conventional trail runner?

The norda 003 follows a different concept from a conventional trail-running shoe. Its laceless construction and approach focus make it especially versatile for days where hiking, scrambling, and running overlap.

If you mainly run, the 001A, 002, or 005 will generally offer a more focused solution depending on the terrain. If your outdoor days combine different forms of movement, the 003 is the more unusual and versatile alternative.

Why does norda use Dyneema®?

Dyneema® is one of norda’s defining materials. It combines very low weight with high abrasion resistance – a particularly useful combination for trail-running footwear.

The 001A, 002, and 003 use seamless Dyneema® uppers, while the 005 uses an open-weave Bio-Dyneema® construction to further improve breathability and water drainage.

Dyneema® therefore shapes not only the performance but also norda’s visual identity: technical, minimal, and comparatively stripped back.

Vibram® grip across the range

All four key models at 43einhalb use specially tuned Vibram® sole solutions. The exact construction changes depending on the intended use.

The 001A, 002, and 003 use Vibram® Litebase Megagrip with 5 mm lugs. The lighter and faster 005 instead uses Vibram® Megagrip Elite with 4 mm lugs.

Grip therefore remains a common foundation across the collection, while weight, cushioning, ground feel, and responsiveness are prioritised differently from model to model.

Performance rather than retro
